Key Word Study Bible

Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible

The Details

This is not specifically a Messianic Bible. It is offered in several translations, including the English Standard Version (ESV) and New American Standard Bible (NASB77). Because these are mainstream Christian translations, the Divine name is generally rendered as LORD and the name of the Messiah is rendered as Jesus. Likewise, book order and verse numberings are the traditional Christian Bible. The weekly Torah readings are not marked.

The distinguishing characteristic, as the name would suggest, is the inclusion of original language word studies. Key words in the text are numerically coded to the Hebrew and Chaldee Dictionary of the Old Testament and Greek Dictionary of the New Testament by James Strong (“Strong’s Dictionary”). Both dictionaries are printed at the back of the Bible.

For select key words, there is an expanded “Lexical Aid” for both the Old and New Testaments. Extended definitions are taken from sources such as the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, A Greek-English Lexicon to the New Testament (Parkhurst) and An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words (Vine). The Greek portion is compiled and edited by Spiros Zodhiates, Th.D. Many words in the New Testament are labeled with grammatical codes and notations.

My Personal Thoughts

This is a great study Bible because of the Key Word lexical aids, and all of the lexicons and dictionaries are in this one volume. It does have notes that at times do not reflect an understanding of the Torah-obedient lifestyle of the believer in Yeshua Messiah. Care and caution should always be used with study notes, even those of Messianic-oriented Bibles.

Though the Key Word resources are great for study, I can be difficult to just read. The Strong’s numbers in the text and the grammatical codes in the New Testament are distracting to me. However, other people I know that use this Bible do not find this to be a problem.
